20th July 2004 - Ashington 1 - Blyth Spartans 1 |
| |
Blyth's pre-season campaign continued as they travelled North to play Ashington in Lee Anderson's Testimonial to celebrate the player's 10 years with the Colliers. |
| With Paul Baker away, newly appointed assistant manager Graham Fenton took charge of the team. Fenton named himself on the bench along side Chris Joyce who returned to the Spartans squad. |
| The first half was an even affair with not many chances being created by either side. Blyth were passing the ball around well but became ineffective when closing into the Ashington penalty area. |
Blyth's best efforts came from Steve Preen, who hit the post and Garydon who hit wide, while Craig Turns had to be on his toes to stop a header giving Ashington the lead. |
| Ashington eventually made the breakthrough when Alan Hogg rose well to header the ball into the far corner. Neither side really threatened to score in the remaining minutes of the half. | ||
| The second half saw Ashington take more control of the game wand both sides hit the woodwork, before Graham Fenton rescued a draw for Blyth scoring late on after a scramble in the goalmouth. | ||
